Thanks
to the corporate and foundation support, the Museum provides an
extensive range of educational programs for children and adults.
Participants include children from school districts throughout
Long Island, and whenever possible, the Museum provides transportation
and reduced fees to under-served districts. We serve over 14,000
school children per year.
Educational funding is generously provided by The Roslyn Savings
Foundation, The David L Klein, Jr. Foundation, New York State
Council on the Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, Nassau
BOCES and the funds provided through the Museum's Annual Ball.
Philosophy of the Education Department
Students and teachers come to the NCMA to view high quality original
artwork. Students learn to look at art through careful observation
and focused discussions that get started with open-ended questions.
They learn to decode art, using their own life experiences and
comparative methods as the basis for their analysis. Visits become
an active participatory experience. Participation in our programs
allows students to develop skills of perception, communication,
critical thinking and understanding.
Staff Development
The Museum offers workshops that help teachers develop strategies
for using the Museum and its resources in order to enhance their
classroom curriculum in all subject areas. Programs can be tailor-made
to fit teachers' needs. Fees include gallery discussions and educator
resource materials.
Education programs
During the course of every academic year visitors can attend four
different exhibitions of renowned American and European artists.
Our programs address the New York State Learning Standards and
make valuable connections and additions to the classroom curriculum.
Our school programs serve Kindergarten through 12th grade.
