Membership | Volunteer Opportunities

Currently there are over 200 active Museum volunteers. Our volunteer docents give free lectures to the public on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday and by appointment to school groups, the handicapped, senior citizens, minority groups and special interest groups.

The volunteers, other than the docents, serve the Museum in a myriad of ways. It is they who greet the public at the front desk, in the Museum's book shop and gift shop, help with mailings, telephones and general office work for the various departments.

In addition, our volunteer staff includes interns who receive credit from their individual universities for their work at the Museum.

Volunteers enjoy many benefits, including discounts on lectures and special events, discounts in the Museum shops, holiday parties and the opportunity to meet and make new friends.

Anyone interested in volunteering should call (516) 484-9338 ext 31.
