Art
and Entertainment
November 18, 2007 through February 3, 2008
Sponsored by Sterling Glen Senior Living
Visual artists have always been fascinated by the exciting
and colorful world of entertainment - the circus, theaters,
the concert stage, nightclubs and so on. In Art and
Entertainment the museum surveys 19th- and 20th-century
entertainment-related art by Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec,
Walt Kuhn, Reginald Marsh, Romare Bearden, and others
with a special emphasis on the inimitable Red Grooms.
In each gallery, a key entertainment-themed work by
Grooms will be juxtaposed with work by other artists.
For each of the show's themes, among them jazz, dance,
film or music, Grooms offers his uniquely whimsical
paintings and vibrantly hued sculpture.

Geoffrey
Holder: A Life in Art,
Theater and Dance
In the Second Floor
Galleries
November 18, 2007 through February 3, 2008

Geoffrey Holder: A Life in Art, Theater and Dance is the
first full-scale museum exhibition devoted to the life
and work of an extraordinary Tony Award-winning dancer,
choreographer, character actor, costume designer, director,
painter, photographer and author who is best known as
7 Up's "Uncola Man" and for his appearances in the popular
films, Annie and Live and Let Die.
Our exhibition explores many of Holder’s endeavors
but looks particularly at his achievements as a visual
artist. His figurative paintings, awash in color, present
powerful images that draw on his Caribbean background and
African roots. Holder offers us scenery and florals, performers
and, most especially, dramatic portraits. The exhibition
also encompasses photographs, costume designs and memorabilia
that document Holder’s wide-ranging interests and
accomplishments.
